Medieval Limoges Enamel Saint. Circa 13th century. Copper-alloy, 24.08g. 58mm. Mounts such as these are often seen in sets decorating the sides of religious caskets, or as mounts on a crucifix, and some suggest that they may have represented saints or the Apostles. The style orignates in Limoges, France, from where they get their name. Ref: Salibury. Cherry. 2001: 42.
